Intense Games on Day Two of the Pan Am Hockey Challenge

Day two of the Pan Am Hockey Challenge in Barbados promised to be an exciting continuation of the action. After each team had their first showing on the pitch yesterday, the competition was already heating up, and today’s matches are expected to be even more thrilling. With the electric atmosphere of Barbados setting the stage, players are ready to bring their best to the field. The weather is perfect—sunny and warm—providing the ideal conditions for another intense and exhilarating day of hockey. Fans and athletes alike can look forward to a day full of skill, passion, and fierce competition.

Guyana VS Mexico 0 – 6 (WOMEN)

Mexico continued their winning streak with a 6-0 victory over Guyana in the opening game of day two at the Junior Pan American Challenge. Mexico’s attack was relentless, converting 2 of their 9 penalty corners, while keeping the pressure on the Guyanese defense throughout the match.

Despite some determined defending, Guyana had no answer to Mexico’s superior play and clinical finishing. Mexico's offensive prowess and tactical precision were on full display as they comfortably sealed another win.

Brazil VS Guatemala 9 – 0 (MEN)

Brazil delivered a dominant 9-0 victory over Guatemala in their second game of the tournament. Coming off a narrow win against Venezuela the previous day, Brazil showed no mercy against a visibly inexperienced Guatemala side, taking control from the very beginning.

The goals started flowing early, with Brazil scoring in the 3rd minute and continuing to build their lead throughout the match. Guatemala struggled to keep up, unable to find any answer to Brazil’s powerful attack.

Matheus Nascimento was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick, while Henrique da Silva converted 2 of Brazil’s 3 penalty corners, netting goals in the 26th and 29th minutes. Francisco Buzatto, Luigi Lunardi and Pedro Cruz got their names on the team’s scoresheet by scoring one goal each. The final goal would come from a well-executed penalty stroke by Brazilian captain Lucas Varela, rounding off a comprehensive 9-0 win.

Brazil’s performance highlighted the gap in experience and skill, leaving Guatemala with little chance to make an impact in the game.

Puerto Rico VS Trinidad and Tobago  13 - 0 (WOMEN)

In the day’s most lopsided matchup, Puerto Rico overwhelmed Trinidad and Tobago with a prolific 13-0 victory. From the outset, Puerto Rico's relentless attack put constant pressure on the Trinidad defense, which looked fatigued and outmatched early on.

Puerto Rico exhibited superior tactical skill and fitness, easily breaking through Trinidad's weary defense. At times, it seemed as though Trinidad was unable to keep up, allowing Puerto Rico to penetrate their backline with ease. Four penalty corners were converted into goals, while nine came from open field play.

Elena Schumacher was the leading goal scorer with 4 goals, while Anna Kosek added a hat-trick. Georgia Rottinghaus contributed 2 goals, and Jalia Cooper, Belyse Landis, Teresa Reed, and Margaret Reed each scored once to complete the 13-goal rout.

It is safe to say that Puerto Rico’s clinical performance demonstrated their dominance in every aspect of the game, leaving the inexperienced Trinidad and Tobago team with little chance to respond. The Trinidadian ladies are still in search of their first win in the tournament after suffering an 8-0 defeat on the opening day against Mexico.

Trinidad and Tobago VS Barbados  1 – 1 (MEN)

In the most anticipated game of the day, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados played out a thrilling 1-1 draw, showcasing fierce competition and a deepening rivalry. Barbados took the early lead, with captain Kanye Wharton converting a penalty corner to put the Bajans on the scoreboard.

As the match unfolded, both teams took turns dominating possession, with Trinidad raising the intensity as the game progressed. The Trinidadian defense, led by goalkeeper and captain Leumas Neptune, was crucial as Neptune made several remarkable saves to deny Barbados a greater advantage.

In the fourth quarter, Trinidad’s pressure paid off as they linked up well, penetrating the Bajan defense. This culminated in a perfectly executed penalty corner—a low flick that powered into the backboard, leveling the score at 1-1.

The match was tightly contested, with Barbados earning 7 short corners to Trinidad’s 8 penalty. Both teams earned 5 cards each further demonstrating the game’s intensity. Despite the shared dominance at different points, neither side could break the deadlock, leaving the game to end in an evenly matched draw.

Barbados VS Guatemala 6 – 0 (WOMEN)

In front of a massive home crowd, Barbados put on an exciting display of skill and teamwork to outplay Guatemala 6-0, rounding off an action-packed day of competition. The Barbadian ladies showcased their talent by stringing together several passes, much to the delight of the fans.

Barbados took an early lead, with Jada Worrell opening the scoring and Gia Greenidge adding a second before halftime. Despite their best efforts, Guatemala struggled to break down the solid Bajan defense. However, the Guatemalans came out of the break with high intensity, showing some attacking threat, but were unable to penetrate the Bajan’s D.

Barbados continued to dominate in the second half, adding four more goals to their tally. TaShaunte Weekes, Sterre De Koning, Gia Greenidge (who netted her second goal), and Keimah Alleyne, who calmly converted a penalty stroke to the goalkeeper's right, all got on the scoresheet.

The 6-0 result highlighted Barbados' intentions to secure a top spot in the tournament, with their skillful play and relentless pressure proving too much for Guatemala.

As the curtain came down on another successful day of hockey, fans were treated to a thrilling display of goals and incredible skill. Each team continued their journey towards securing a spot in the top two, which would guarantee automatic qualification for the Junior Pan Am Games in Paraguay. With only two games slated for tomorrow, fans can look forward to some more exciting action. Catch us from 14:00 at the Barbados Hockey Turf or watch the games live on Youtube!
